My guess would be you both did grow the same plant however based on your results the seeds were an early filial generation.
The Death spiral is a variant of the Naga Bubblegum 7 Pot(which is a cross between a Red Bhutla and 7 Pot Bubblegum).
With your(possible) early filial generation there is a chance the plant can show more traits from one side of the cross than the other. I’d bet this is the case here. The earlier filial generation the cross is, the higher the chance you’ll have variations between the peppers grown.
