69 cents adjusted for inflation from 1999-2023 = $1.24. Taco Bell charges $2 for a regular taco now smh

At the Taco Bell I visited an hour ago, those items cost:

    $1.89 taco
    $1.59 nachos
    $2.39 small Pepsi/$2.49 medium Pepsi
**$2.50** Chili Cheese Burrito (just an estimate since it’s not sold there anymore)

**$8.37 TODAY** (or about $9.50 at my other nearest Taco Bell)
    **$3.26 IN 1999**

Incidentally, about a year ago the Taco Bell I just ordered from DID have cheap Chili Cheese Burritos somewhere around $2, but I’ve read on here that they cost $3 and probably more for some people.

My most frequented Taco Bell (different from the one I went to today) is generally cheaper except for charging $2.69!! for chips & cheese. Seems crazy that store still has $1 Cheesy Bean & Rice Burritos and Chipotle Chicken Melts and $2 value burritos but prices nachos at $2.69.

    >I need these prices back!!!

Remember, minimum wage was $5.15 in May of 1999.

Can I buy that receipt for DNA samples for my time traveling project

Too bad they didn’t have other available items from 1999 but not today. Double Decker Taco, etc…

  10. In ’99 my meal in high school was a 7 layer and two bean and cheese…came out to exactly $3.

  11. Remember when a nickel used to cost a quarter?

  12. ChefBoyarDuff

Ahhh 1999. Me and my little sister would tear up some double deckers.

For anyone reasonable, we know even with average inflation these prices aren’t attainable anymore. That said, I do miss the true value menus at fast food places where you could get a filling meal for like $3.

I worked at a TB in 1999. This brings back so many memories

Back in 99 I went into a TB wasted pretty much handed them a $20- and got a shopping bag full of stuff. I didn’t even know TB had shopping bags.

When I was regularly going to TB in a mall food court around 88-89 once a week on the way to night school class the tacos were about 49 and 69 for supreme and bean burritos were about the same. Everything basic was in that same price range and things like burrito supreme were 99 cents or just Uber maybe. Of course
    Min wage was $3.25.

I believe this was the year they introduced the chalupa and it was $.99.

  18. lozziepops

That was almost my exact order in 1999, except the nachos would be a tostada. Dammit I miss the chili cheese burritos and the tostadas! TB should have a 1999 promo and change the menu to exactly what it was back then, just for one day. The food and the prices, but I’d settle for just the food. 🥺

  19. I remember these receipts and the little plastic bags they used to use

  20. jcowlishaw

That’s from the store I worked at- I would have been the closing manager that night. (I always did the Tuesday closings.)
