Nope, not even close. Flan is made of sugar, vanilla, eggs, evaporated and condensed milk

Southern bread pudding might be closer to tres leches imo

Nope but maybe capirotada is

The picture is chocoflan. Chocolate cake with flan. Regular Flan has no bread (or flour) whatsoever.
generallyok
Budin and capirotada are both bread puddings, I’d say budin is closer. But no flan is completely different from both.

They are similar in one way, they are both custards. With flan, a custard is poured over caramelized sugar and then baked. Bread pudding on the other hand is made by pouring the custard over stale bread and other fillings before baking. The creamy custard texture is probably what you’re picking up on, although it is much more firm in bread pudding.

If you had flan that had a texture like bread pudding, you had a poorly made flan that curdled during the cooking process.
I love bread pudding, and I love good flan. I hate bad flan, which can reasonably be compared to a super, super eggy bread pudding (sans bread).

They are different types of dessert.

I’ve had the chocolate came flying combo it’s pretty good. But flying by itself is more custardy.

Flan has no bread.
It’s more like Italian pana cotta.

No it’s closer to pudding. Think of it as a pudding cake.

as a southerner, not at all. flan has 5 ingredients (3 types of milk, eggs, vanilla), all wet. bread pudding requires dry/solid ingredients like bread, and additional mix-ins are welcome. my nan used to love adding raisins and cinnamon. no such things exist in flan, what’s in ur picture is a fusion dessert called chocoflan (chocolate cake and flan).
