Planning to buy a molcajete for my mom for Christmas. She’s been wanting one for YEARS. Is this a good one?

I went to another post and I have two redditors to back this one up. They said it seasons well and turns black during usage. Reviews look good too and it’s in my price range. What do you guys think?

I bought mine from mexgrocer.com. Very legit and came in great condition.

i bought one off amazon before and it ended up being made of concrete and not volcanic rock like the description said.

I paid a bit more but eventually got one from masienda who sources them from an artisan in Puebla, they are totally made from a single piece of stone and carved out. It is worth paying a little more in my opinion.

I went to a local Mexican store to purchase mine. That way I could see it and verify the quality.

Also, it was half the price of Amazon and supporting a local family.

Get one from an authentic Mexican store or a swap meet if you have one near you.

Get the biggest you can and then smooth it out for her first….

I got the masienda one. It’s kinda pricy but I really wanted one that didn’t have tall legs for better storage

Molcajetes are usually made from Volcanic rock. If you can find one that is legit from it and not granite those will be the best! sometimes hard to find but maybe your local Mexican Meat market may carry them. Usually if its granite at the time she uses it it will release particles that will taste sand like.

  8. I have a couple of [molcajetes](https://i.imgur.com/ObCsUPT.jpg), and the one you are looking at is [my favorite.](https://i.imgur.com/YUFCt5q.jpg) I ordered it from Amazon from that seller as I live in a small city with a healthy population and 5 Mexican groceries within 5 minutes of my house, and none sell molcajetes. I’ll note though, that it was over $20 cheaper when I bought mine. I paid $36.99 plus tax for mine.
