Where did you get it? Local restaurant? Chain? Friend’s house?

if i had to guess it looks like tomato, jalapeno, onion all blackened in a pan with no oil and then blended with cilantro and salt, maybe lime. look up salsa tatemada or quemada to get an idea.

Some sort of roasted tomatoes or peppers for sure. Probably roasted tomatoes. Also seems to contain corn. Does it have a smokey chipotle-y flavor? Most of the chipotle infused sauces I’ve tried had a look like this. Could also be tomatillos or just a lot of onion making that color too, but it really looks like a chip salsa to me. Like it looks spot on like Chevy’s house salsa (except for the corn), and that’s heavily chipotled salsa. If you want to replicate this I would suggest you make your regular salsa and then add corn and some canned chipotles with the sauce like La Costina (the sauce in canned chipotles really does more heavy lifting than the peppers themselves imo.) I’ve managed to get pretty close to Chevy’s salsa just adding canned chipotles.

The inherent problem with this question presented frequently on this sub is that there are tons of possibilities that would all look like this. Some things can be identified like charring but what looks like cilantro could be culantro, there’s no telling if there is citrus or what kind, whether or not there is cumin or garlic, etc. In most Latin cooking, there are types of salsas like Verde or what not but everyone puts different stuff in them. My ex MIL used to put pickle juice in hers and you would never be able to identify it but it made it very unique. Everyone will have to ask the chef what is in the salsa.
