Peppers

Update on topped vs untopped bell peppers

As in my previous post: the untopped has produced a lot more peppers although not the leaves are yellowing, I’ve added magnesium and calcium and will wait for results.

As for now, the only pepper on the topped plant, that was small and uneven, and soft. Strangely I had a dream about the peppers rotting and this morning found that pepper basically rotting with a white spot, I think that’s blossom end rot? I snipped that pepper off.

I’m coming to the conclusion not to top your peppers.

I’ve come to this same conclusion as well, I only top if i absolutely have to keep the pepper shorter.

Pepper farmers, at least in my area, don’t top their plants. But they do heavily train them, which I believe involves keeping only four main stems and making sure the fruits are evenly spaced along the stem. Now, there is a component of consumer preference in this, in that it produces slightly less fruit but they will all be big and at the end of the season you’ll have more grams of pepper mass than without training.

Im not the only one who dreams about pepper plants 😃. I have poblano peppers and added some bone meal since i fear blossom end rot too!
