  1. I'm growing a chile piquín plant on the porch. This is its second year. The first year I got about 20 peppers, and this year I expect to get a hundred or so. I just let them dry out. But this morning I made tacos and my GF complained that they were too hot. I only put in 3 of these little chiles for 3 tacos, which I thought was about right. I ground them up in a mortar with black peppercorns and comino seeds. But my GF rejected her taco after she ate half of it. What can I do? Dear Arnie, dear Arnie, won't you help me with this?

  2. Hi I think I would like the chiltepin but I only grew up with chile pequin. My mom would make a chile tomato consistency adding onion and chiles

  3. Man, I was so happy when we had a chiltepin plant just pop up in our front yard in the Austin area! I had never heard of them, and that made me take a research deep dive so I could use them properly and grow more! But then we had an emergemcy move happen, and we couldn't pull the plants out and take them with us. 😩 Oh well, either way, love this video! Now, once I get some new seeds and can start growing my own again, I'll have recipes for it!

  4. 7:20 Arnie, I love your content, but if you're using Celtic sea salt, how are you not using fresh cracked pepper!? Using previously ground pepper is like using saw dust. You don't know how long it's been sitting there like that. All of the oils and flavor have been dried up by the time you use it.

  5. They grow wild in the privet hedges in the city parks in Tucson. They’re one of those chili’s make sure you wash your hands before and after you go to the bathroom or rub your eyes or pick your nose

  6. I'd love to see some recipes with ancho chiles! Ever since I discovered the Ancho Reyes tequila liqueurs, I almost always make my margs spicy style! 🌶🌶🌶

  7. My father claimed that as young he had killed wild turkeys on the Sabinal River, whose flesh was too hot to eat, because they had been feeding on wild chili pequins.

  8. Is anyone still confused? Are there two different chilis happening here or is it just one called a bunch of different things lol

  9. I'm growing both chiltepin & chile pequin. I was thinking of combining them in a hot sauce, would they go well together?

  10. Came down to Alice Texas with a friend of mine one of the black farmers who was renting Ranch land from a friend of mine's father to raise his cows on.
Gave me little round Peppers and he split it half and said taste this, it literally burnt the end of my tongue !
🥵🤮🥵😱 he sat there and laughed because he thought he got over on a Yankee real good.
I made some food and put horseradish into it only for him and I gave it to him I paid him back that way !

  11. I grow pequin peppers. I absolutely love them. Fresh, it is fruity. Dried, it is deep and smokey. If I may, try cooking with culantro. It has the cilantro flavor but by a factor of five!

  12. Man, you are bringing back memories of being 16 and working as a bicycle mechanic. Andy, this old hippie that I used to work with always kept a jar of the pequin chiles in the shop fridge and I LOVED them! Guess I need to find some for the pantry…

  13. Enjoyed the video and info. I live near Alice , I have a chile plant under several Mesquites thanks to mocking birds. I have many different varieties here some even look like small Jalapenos .

  14. When I was a kid, my grandfather had a ranch out in the hill country. He would have me and my little brother pick chile piquin peppers that grew on the fence line. He would then toast the peppers in the over and mix them with peanuts. He'd watch TV drinking a cold beer and snack on peanuts and peppers. One day, while picking peppers, my brother and I decided that if grandpa could eat those peppers so casually, so could we. Big mistake. We were washing our mouths out at the horse trough.

  15. When I grew chili pequin bush, we ended up smoking a lot of the chilis and then made bbq sauce with them! Delicious

  16. One of my first memories, from about ~2-3yr old or so…is getting into the chilitepin bush on the fence line in my backyard. I thought they were just berries. Started crying and rubbed my eyes, bad idea. Luckily I never became adverse to chili peppers, just to eating random berries outside.
