Tobago Hot peppers

First time growing these and the first one tasted.

Plant reaches 2 feet or so in height, and produces pretty quickly. Pods start out almost lime green then move to light orange and finally a dark orange and red. Very nice.

Cutting it open you can smell the spice right away, but the heat level does not match the smell. I’ve seen these described in different places as having no heat, to being in the range of 10k-15k.

In my case I’m going to estimate somewhere in the sub 1000 range. You can feel it tingle but pretty safe for anyone not used to spice. Well below a jalapeño.

It’s an earthy almost smoky flavour. Very tasty. Not something for a pure hot sauce, but would be a nice touch in stews or curry.

In fact I’m going to use the balance of these in a curry and see what the family thinks.

For heat lovers, not recommended.

For flavour and complexity, very good.

For ornamental, great.
