Homemade Crispy Chilli Mongolian Beef

    • 250g Steak
    • 1 Tsp soy sauce
    • 1 Tsp oil
    • 1 Tsp Water
    • 1 Tsp cornflour
    • 1/4 Tsp bicarbonate soda

    1. Cut steak into thin slices then add to a bowl with the other ingredients above and mix so covered evenly then marinade for at least 1 hour

    2. Pour some cornflour on a plate and coat steak pieces one by one

    3. Add 1 cup of neutral oil to a wok or skillet until it’s about to smoke then add in steak pieces in batches and cook for about 3 minutes each side then remove and set side

    SAUCE
    • 1/4 cup light soy sauce
    • 3/4 cup warm water
    • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
    • 1 + 1/2 tbsp dark soy sauce

    1. Now make your sauce. start by dissolving the sugar in the warm water first then stir in the rest of the ingredients then set aside

    WOK
    • Steak pieces
    • Sauce
    • 5 garlic cloves minced
    • 2 tsp minced ginger
    • 3-6 large dried chillis
    • 6 spring onions (separate white and green parts)

    1. Add 1 tbsp of oil to a wok or skillet on medium low heat and cook chilli’s and ginger for 2 minutes stirring regularly

    2. Add the white parts of the spring onions and garlic cook for 30 seconds then add in sauce cook for 2 minutes on medium heat

    3. While that’s cooking mix together 1 tbsp of cornflour to 2 tbsp of water to make a slurry and add to wok bit by bit until sauce thickens (the sauce needs to be thick so that it sticks onto the beef)

    4. Once thickened add in steak pieces and the green parts of the spring onions and cook for 1 minute then serve
