Guitarist Chris Shiflett won the Hot Ones Versus trophy after all six Foo Fighters members appeared on the web show. They answered questions and ate spicy wings. The contest wrapped with musical chairs, crowning Shiflett as champion.
The Hot Ones spinoff pits contestants against a choice: answer personal questions or bite into a Wing of Death. Whoever eats the fewest wings claims victory.
Most band members talked instead of eating. Dave Grohl picked his most embarrassing lyric from the 2005 track “DOA.”
The lyric reads: “It’s a shame we have to die, my dear/ No ones getting out of here alive.”
“I just thought that’s so f****** stupid,” Grohl said.
Grohl shared wild tales during the episode. An unreleased rap track titled “That A**” exists but will probably never see the light of day. He also recounted how David Bowie told him to “f*** off” over email after Grohl asked the singer to contribute to a film soundtrack.
Grohl admitted he got diarrhea after drinking Slovenian tap water before a show. Chris Shiflett ranked the other members’ previous bands, placing Rami Jaffee’s The Wallflowers at number one and Nate Mendel’s Sunny Day Real Estate in fourth. Pat Smear couldn’t remember Jenna Ortega’s name, and Ilan Rubin ate a wing instead of pitching an alternate name for the group.
Grohl appeared on Hot Ones back in 2022 to support the horror comedy film Studio 666. He called being on the show a bucket-list moment, comparing it to performing on Saturday Night Live and David Letterman’s show.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees released their new album, Your Favorite Toy, in April. They appeared on Colbert, NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Series, and Track Star this month.
The group will headline Bottlerock in Napa Valley this weekend. They’ll launch a stadium tour with Queens of the Stone Age in August. All tour dates for this year and early next year are on the band’s website.
