North suburban restaurant closing iconic location after decades as focus shifts – NBC Chicago

A spot where generations of Chicago-area residents have gathered for french-fried onions and mouthwatering burgers will soon be no more.

However, diners will still be able to get the menu favorites they’ve come to love.

Hackney’s, a Glenview mainstay, announced Friday its Lake Avenue location will be permanently closing in early September.

“It’s not a decision we take lightly,” the restaurant said in a social media post, in part. “But a 700-seat restaurant made sense in the 1960s — it doesn’t in 2026. This will let us focus on creating an excellent customer experience at our Harms location, where our exciting renovations will be complete.”

Hackney’s went on to thank everyone whose worked there, dined there and made the restaurant feel like home.

“We hope you’ll come and celebrate 71 years of great memories over the next month,” their post added. “And that you’ll continue to make new memories a mile and a half up the road at our newly refreshed Harms Road bar —same family, same 87 years of history, just a nice, new interior for the next chapter.”

Hackney’s on Harms is located at 1241 Harms Rd. It is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
