PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – What looks like a train car on 23rd Street in Panama City that sat empty for years is now home to the Bayline Grill, a waterfront restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The building was constructed by a property owner with an affinity for trains, according to Bayline Grill owner Steven McGinn. The restaurant opened July 27.
McGinn, 55, said opening the Bayline Grill fulfilled a long-held personal goal after spending his career working in the restaurant industry for others.
“I’ve worked for other people all my life and at 55 years old, I finally made a decision that it’s time to go on your own,” McGinn said.
The restaurant emphasizes low prices and large portions. McGinn said the lunch and dinner menus lean toward seafood and steakhouse offerings.
“We go on cheap prices and big portions and they’re huge,” McGinn said. “Once we move to lunch and dinner it gears more towards seafood and steak house.”
McGinn said his goal is to keep meals affordable for all customers.
“I just want them to be happy,” McGinn said. “We are trying to serve food at a cheap price and make it affordable for everyone to eat here when they want to eat here and not have to break the bank when they do it.”
The interior features nostalgic photos of Panama City’s railway history displayed around the dining area. The restaurant employs about 30 people.
McGinn said the permitting and paperwork process took months before the restaurant could open.
The Bayline Grill is located at 4200 W. 23rd St. in Panama City.
