Trimac Transportation acquired food-grade bulk carrier California Freight for an undisclosed sum, the company said Aug. 4, in the latest in a series of bulk or flatbed deals.
Adding California Freight to its portfolio is also Calgary, Alberta-headquartered Trimac’s second acquisition in the Golden State in two years.
Ripon, Calif.-based California Freight operates eight trucking terminals, a warehousing terminal and a brokerage facility in its home state and Nevada. The company will continue to operate under its existing name.
“California Freight has built an exceptional reputation in the heart of California’s agricultural and dairy economy, and we’re excited to welcome them into the Trimac family of companies,” said Trimac CEO Matt Faure.
“With three decades of specialized expertise, their capabilities in food-grade transportation, warehousing and brokerage align directly with Trimac’s long-term growth strategy,” he added.
California Freight began operations as a regional brokerage in 1989. The company added a transportation division in 2012 that currently operates a fleet of tractors and tankers primarily moving raw milk to processing facilities across its home state. The division also operates in the wine, food and beverage, and agricultural sectors.

As part of the acquisition, Trimac executive Jesse Hanson will join California Freight as president and work alongside the existing California Freight leadership team.
Trimac’s last deal in the Golden State saw it acquire dry bulk carrier Valley Bulk. Victorville, Calif.-based Valley specialized in dry bulk transportation services across southern and central California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah, particularly cement, fly ash and aggregates. The carrier also hauls nonhazardous liquids.
Valley Bulk had more than 50 trucks and 90 trailers while employing around 70 staff at the time of the deal.
Trimac made four acquisitions overall in 2025. The most recent involved chemical products hauler Service Transport Co.
STC operates 16 locations and four tank wash facilities along the U.S. Gulf Coast. It has a fleet of nearly 290 tractors and 750 trailers and employs more than 300 drivers. Houston-based STC specializes in transporting hydrogen peroxide, acrylic acid, solvents, surfactants and other specialty products. Trimac said the commodities are core to its existing product offering.
Also in 2025, Trimac bought Searcy Trucking, an open-deck and heavy-haul carrier based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and specialized haulage carrier Watt & Stewart.

Searcy had more than 120 trucks and 170 trailers at the time of the deal. Its Universal Reload division also offers transloading, warehousing and distribution.
The deal boosted Trimac’s position in flat-deck, less-than-truckload and specialized services across western Canada and the U.S. Midwest.
Trimac bought Watt & Stewart for an undisclosed sum in January 2025 to expand the company’s mining, forestry and heavy-equipment transportation operations. Watt & Stewart operated 124 tractors and 205 trailers at the time. Watt & Stewart has operations in Alberta, South Carolina and Texas, serving mining and manufacturing hubs.
