JEROME, AZ (AZFamily) — A restaurant that has sat inside a historic Arizona hotel for over two decades has shut its doors.
Jerome Grand Hotel owners, Larry Altherr and Ken Elliott, shared on its Facebook page that the long-standing restaurant that has called the hotel home, Asylum Restaurant, closed permanently. The restaurant’s last day was July 27.
Hotel owners took to social media to clarify information surrounding the restaurant’s surprise closure. The hotel was reportedly told on the morning of July 28 that the restaurant would be closing “effective immediately.”
“This news came to a surprise to us as well,” a portion of the statement read.
With speculation surrounding the decision, hotel owners clarified that the restaurant’s rent was not the reason for its closing.
“Out of respect for everyone involved, we do not believe private business arrangements should be debated on social media, and we will not engage in speculation, accusations, or personal disagreements,” hotel officials said.
Asylum Restaurant has stood inside the historic hotel for 25 years, serving guests from Arizona and visitors worldwide. The hotel thanked Asylum’s owners, Rich and Jenn, for their many years of generosity and service to the Jerome community and hotel.
“We sincerely appreciate everything Rich, Jenn, and the many members of their staff have contributed over the years, and we wish them nothing but the best in whatever comes next,” the statement read.
