Dr. Michael Sheehan was accepted into an 18-month accelerated rehabilitation program on Wednesday in state Superior Court in New Haven. His next court date is scheduled for Feb. 15, 2028, court records show.
Sheehan was arrested on July 14, 2023, and charged with second-degree sexual assault. He is free after posting $100,000 bail.
Reached by phone Friday, Sheehan declined to comment.
Upon successful completion of accelerated rehabilitation, or AR, a defendant may have his or her charges dropped.
According to the warrant for his arrest, a then-20-year-old woman told police Sheehan touched her breasts and her genital area without gloves in June 2023 during what was supposed to be a routine exam. The woman did not ask him to check those parts of her body, nor was she experiencing any problems with them, it said.
When investigators got the record of the visit, they saw that the doctor wrote that he did not examine her breasts or genitalia.
Sheehan worked for Branford Pediatrics & Adolescents at the time, although his name is no longer on the website.
His license to practice medicine has been suspended, according to the state Department of Public Health, and court records show that the victim is suing him and Branford Pediatrics for damages. A trial is scheduled to begin next month with jury selection.
