This is The Daily Tar Heel’s weekly campus crime brief, in which staff writer Ella Palmer summarizes the crimes reported on campus in the last seven days, every Sunday.
A hate crime, sexual assault incidents and an instance of fraud were all reported at UNC within the past week, from Sunday, March 22, through Saturday, March 28.
These incidents were reported in the UNC Police Crime Log to comply with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, or Clery Act. All American colleges and universities participating in federal financial aid programs, including UNC System schools, comply with the federal law. It requires timely warnings of crimes and offenses that present a threat to the safety of students or employees, as well as the publication of campus security policies.
Though publicly available in police reports, The DTH does not name those reported committing nonviolent crimes, such as alcohol violations, to avoid unnecessary harm.

Sunday, March 22
There were no crimes reported on this day.
Monday, March 23
A hate crime was reported to have occurred at midnight at Greenlaw Hall. The reported behavior was anti-transgender vandalism and involved the destruction of property. This case is now inactive.
Sexual assault, specifically fondling, was reported at midnight at Dey Hall. The case was reported to have occurred on Sept. 1. This case is now inactive.
Two cases of sexual assault, including rape and domestic violence, were reported at midnight from St. Anthony Hall. The cases were reported to have occurred on Nov. 1 and Feb. 1. These cases are now inactive.
Another case of domestic violence was reported at midnight from St. Anthony Hall. The case was reported to have happened at midnight on Nov. 1. This case is still open.
Domestic violence was also reported at South Columbia Street at midnight. The case was reported to have happened on Feb. 5. This case is now inactive.
Larceny from Granville Towers South was reported on this day, reportedly occurring on March 19 around noon. The crime was listed as a package stolen from Granville Towers’ package center, according to the police report. This case is still open.
Theft of an electric scooter and property damage/vandalism was reported on this day, reportedly occurring at noon on March 20 at Carmichael Residence Hall. This case is now inactive.
Theft of an electric scooter was reported to have occurred at 3 p.m. on March 13 at Cobb Residence Hall. This case is still open.
Tuesday, March 24
Larceny from a vehicle and property damage/vandalism was reported on this day, reportedly occurring at 4 p.m. on March 20 at Graham Cameron Parking Lot. The property damaged and stolen was valued at $720, according to the police report. This case is still open.
Wednesday, March 25
Larceny of a bicycle was reported to have occurred 4 p.m. at the Health Sciences Library. This case is currently open.
Thursday, March 26
Violation of a Domestic Violence Protection Order was reported on this day, reportedly occurring at midnight on March 9 at the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History. This case is still open.
Fraud, specifically obtaining money/property by false pretense, was reported on this day, reportedly occurring at 12:29 p.m. on Tuesday at the Public Safety Building. This case is open.
A drug violation and using/consuming tax-paid liquor was reported at 10:05 p.m. at Hinton James Residence Hall. This case is now inactive.
Friday, March 27
An individual was reported to have used/consumed tax-paid liquor at 11:20 p.m. at the Carolina Inn. This case is open.
Saturday, March 28
There were no crimes reported on this day.
The DTH obtains incident reports and outlines related details when possible, but some of these circumstantial details are excluded from public copies. The DTH will follow up on some incidents in subsequent reporting to provide more information.
CLARIFICATION: A previous version of this brief used vague language to describe the reports of sexual assault and domestic violence that were reported from St. Anthony Hall, leading readers to believe that St. Anthony Hall residents were involved in the alleged crimes.
