COLUMBIA — Murry’s Restaurant announced plans to open a second location in downtown Columbia in the fall of 2026 through a social media post on Sunday. The restaurant’s current location is off Green Meadows Road near Providence Road.

The restaurant’s second location will in the space currently occupied by Sycamore downtown, which is at East Broadway and Eighth Street. The owners of Murry’s said they hope to maintain the “welcoming jazz club atmosphere” their customers expect and look forward to contributing to the “vibrant downtown energy.”

“Our friends, Sanford and Jill Speake, are looking forward to their retirement,” the Murry’s owners said in the post. “The legacy and impact that Sycamore leaves behind will be deeply felt by the restaurant community. We are grateful for this opportunity and for the support that Columbia has shown us for over 40 years.”

In a social media post from Sycamore, Sanford and Jill announced the closing of their restaurant and that they plan on “moving on to the next phase.”

Murry’s will document its progress of transforming the new location on social media and looks forward to welcoming guests, according to the post.

Katy Taylor, a Jefferson City resident and Murry’s customer, said she hoped the new location might alleviate some of the demand at the jazz club’s current site.

“For another side of town to have them close by, and maybe free this up a little bit so it’s not so crowded, would be great,” Taylor said.

Sycamore’s last day of business will be May 29, but one of its longtime employees hopes to open a new Sycamore in a different location, according to the post.
