“Look for rainbows, believe in unicorns, love Jesus, and shine like Stevee”
A new community event honoring the life and legacy of a much-loved little lady, is set to bring food, music and fellowship to Henderson.
The first annual Shine Like Stevee Crawfish Boil Cook-Off will take place Saturday, May 9, from 2 to 10 p.m. at the Rusk County Youth Expo Center.
The event celebrates the life of Stevee Ann Hale, remembered by friends and family as a bright light who brought joy and love to those around her. Organizers say the cook-off is a fitting tribute, combining community spirit with the kind of lively gathering Stevee herself would have enjoyed.
“Stevee Ann Hale was one of the brightest stars God ever made, and we’re fixin’ to celebrate her the best way we know how — with a crawfish cook-off,” organizers shared in event materials.
Guests will have the afternoon to enjoy activities, browse vendors and sample food before live music begins later in the day.
The band In The Clear is scheduled to perform from 4:30 to 8 p.m., providing live entertainment as the cook-off and festivities continue. Gates will close at 10 p.m.

In addition to the crawfish boil competition, organizers have expanded food options to ensure there’s something for everyone. Hot dogs and chips will be available, along with a selection of offerings from local food trucks on site, giving attendees a variety of choices beyond crawfish.
The event will also feature vendors, a community auction and activities for children, making it a family-friendly gathering designed to bring people together
The cook-off is designed not only as a celebration, but also as a way to bring the community together in remembrance. Organizers say the day will reflect Stevee’s joyful spirit and her love for people, creating a space where friends, family and neighbors can gather, share stories and make new memories.
Guests are encouraged to come hungry and bring your friends.
