Bellingham is poised to lose at least four restaurants this month, following several closure announcements that were made over the Labor Day weekend.
Luna’s Bistro
Luna’s Bistro, an American restaurant located near Regal Cinemas and Woods Coffee in Barkley Village, is closing permanently this week, according to a Sept. 6 Facebook post.

“After 15 wonderful years of serving Whatcom County community, the time has come for us to officially hang up our aprons and retire,” the post states.
“Our last day of service will be Friday, September 11th,” the post states. Serving you has been the adventure of a lifetime. From celebrating birthdays and anniversaries to sharing everyday meals, your laughter and loyalty filled this room with warmth.”
Luna’s Bistro is open from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 3004 Cinema PL.
Rock and Rye Oyster House
Back in June, the owners of Rock and Rye Oyster House announced the restaurant would be permanently closing at a later date.
“Twelve years flew by in a flash, in June 2014 we opened our doors to the public for the first time. It is time we celebrate our 12th anniversary! Unfortunately, it will also be our last,” owner Harrison Gilbert wrote in a June 16th Instagram post.
But according to another social media announcement on Sunday, Sept. 6, the restaurant will have its last day of service on Saturday, Sept. 26.

“Join us for one last cocktail, a few oysters, and a proper farewell. We’re closing our doors, and Sept. 26 will be our final day of service. Come raise a glass, share some oysters, and make one more memory with us before the last call,” the Sept. 6 Facebook post states.
Rock and Rye Oyster House is open from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 4 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 4 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at 1145 North State St. in downtown Bellingham.
Red Star
Red Star, a downtown Bellingham taco restaurant and bar, is set to close on Friday, Sept. 25, according to a Sept. 4 Facebook post on the restaurant’s profile.

“It is with great reluctance that we have to announce we will be permanently closing Red Star Bellingham on Friday, Sept. 25, 2026. There are a number of factors that contribute to this decision, not one single cause, and it was not an easy or a simple decision to make,” the Facebook post states.
The restaurant’s sister restaurant that operates in the same space, Sweet Bay Cafe, will not be closing, according to the post.
“On the bright side, we will still be in the space operating our other restaurant/café, Sweet Bay Cafe, and we are excited to pour our heart and soul into continuing to provide brunch and coffee on State Street,” the post states.
Red Star is open from 3-10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 3 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday at 1327 N State St.
Corner Taphouse
Corner Taphouse, a pub in Bellingham’s Fairhaven neighborhood that opened in 2022, will be closing permanently at the end of September, according to a Sept. 4 Facebook post.
“After a lot of thought, we unfortunately have some difficult news to share. The Corner Taphouse will be shutting its doors at the end of September,” the post states.
No official closing date has been set.

Corner Taphouse is open from 3 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 3 to 11 p.m. Friday; 1 to 11 p.m. Saturday; and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at 1125 Finnegan Way in Bellingham.
