Food distribution set
The Norwin Elks, the Pennsylvania National Guard and the Westmoreland Food Bank will host a Military Share food distribution program from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Oct. 8 at the Norwin Elks, 135 Elks Lane, Manor.
The program is open to all Westmoreland County veterans, active-duty military, National Guard and Reserve personnel. Registration is required and limited to the first 180 pre-registered veterans, with a deadline of Sept. 29. First-time participants must provide proof of residency and military identification, such as a DD-214 or VA card.

River festival returns
Entertainment, food, crafts, vendors, games and contests for pie eating and the cutest pet will be part of the West Newton River Festival, which will be held along Main and Second streets from noon to 9 p.m. Sept. 12.
A parade and fireworks also are planned.
Library book sale
The final book sale of 2026 for the West Newton Public Library at 124 N. Water St. will be held Sept. 19, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a rain date of Sept. 26.
The sale features adult hardcovers and paperbacks, biographies, non-fiction, children’s books, DVDs, audio tapes and puzzles. Patrons can fill a bag for $5, and a buy-one-get-one-free offer is available.
Volunteers are appreciated at 7 a.m. to help unload books onto display tables and at 2 p.m. to return unsold books to storage. For more information, call 724-633-0798.
Softball
fundraiser
Sage’s Army, a drug prevention and recovery organization, will hold its first free recovery softball tournament at 9 a.m. Sept. 19 at Hempfield Park, 220 Forbes Trail Road.
There will be information on local community resources, food trucks, flash tattoos by Obsession Tattoo Studio, opportunities to make bracelets and other hands-on activities.

Herminie food festival
A festival featuring a variety of ethnic food — including halushki, pierogies, spanakopita, kolachy, baklava and biscotti — will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 12 at St. Mary’s Byzantine Church hall, 7 Second St., Herminie.
Thefestival, which includes other baked goods, is being held in conjunction with the Herminie car show.

Meeting for deaf
Sage’s Army holds a recovery meeting in American Sign Language for those who are deaf, hard of hearing and for children of deaf adults on the second and fourth Sunday of each month from 1 to 3 p.m. at the organization’s headquarters, 216 Fourth St., Irwin.
The meetings are peer-supported, deaf-accessible and community-centered.

Church burger bash
Immaculate Conception Church will host its last summer burger bash from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 12 inside Our Lady’s Plaza, 308 Second St. in Irwin. The public is invited.
Art league workshops
The Norwin Art League is offering an expanded lineup of public workshops and classes at its facility, 306 Main St., Irwin.

• Beginner Knitting Workshop II: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15. Cost: $15 members, $20 nonmembers (ages 14 and older; register by Sept. 13).

Charity golf outing
The 10th annual Twilight Wish Foundation Westmoreland County Chapter’s charity golf outing will take place Sept. 26 at Manor Valley Golf Course in Penn Township.
The group’s mission is to enrich the lives of seniors through individual wish granting celebrations.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The cost is $125 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch, buffet dinner, beverages and prizes. There will be a basket auction, skills competitions and a 50/50 drawing along with a hole-in-one challenge.
The golf course is at 2090 Denmark Manor Road.

Bushy Run events
Bushy Run Battlefield, 1253 Route 993 in Penn Township, will host a fall nature walk at 10 a.m. Sept. 12 and its 15th annual car cruise from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 19.
To register for the walk or the car cruise, visit bushyrun.org. The walk costs $5. Vehicle registration for the car cruise is free. The first 150 car cruise registrants will receive a commemorative dash plaque.
The historical site also will host its last vendor market of the season from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 26 and its next craft and chat circle from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 27.
Vendors selling baked goods, coffee, honey, crocheted items, candles, soaps, pet items, 3D prints, wood carvings, photography, jewelry and plants will attend the market. It will be held outside near the Bushy Run Museum.

Those attending the craft and chat circle can bring materials to knit, crochet, scrapbook, paint, sew, sketch or complete any other crafting hobby. Future circles will be held Oct. 25, Nov. 29 and Dec. 27.
Chorus seeks members
The Monroeville Chorus is seeking new member as it prepares for a new season starting in September.
Participants do not have to live in Monroeville, and auditions are not necessary.

Museum passes
Westmoreland County Libraries has partnered with several regional museums to offer free general admission to library-card holders for up to two adults and four children.
Passes can be obtained for Historic Hanna’s Town, West Overton Village, the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Fort Ligonier Museum, the Lincoln Highway Experience, the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department and the historic Bushy Run Battlefield.

The PA Lyme Resource Network will host a monthly Lyme disease support group meeting.
