SUMMERS COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA) – A beloved restaurant is set to make its return under new ownership and a makeover.
On Hinton Bypass, a local favorite is closed, but certainly not forgotten. Soon, it will reopen its doors with an experienced manager at the helm.
“I left a very successful restaurant in Mullens, West Virginia, and I still love that town and the people and the owner there, a very good friend of mine, but this is a challenge, you know, staking my toe into new sand over here,” said general manager and part owner of Kirk’s, Jeffrey Halsey.
Halsey said he’s heard community rumors on what the new Kirk’s will be, and assures that the menu will accommodate everyone.
“We want to be very family-friendly oriented. It’s going to be a very family-friendly menu. We’re going to have a little bit of everything,” Halsey explained.
“There’s been a lot of speculation about a high-end steak place and this and that. We are going to have steaks but we’re going to have a little bit of everything.”
As for what you can expect when doors open, the inside may be changed, but Halsey promises some things will truly stay the same as he collaborates with Kirk’s previous owners ahead of opening.
“We will be honoring and paying homage to Mrs. Rice and Wayne Rice will be here actually training the breakfast crew, and it’s going to be his breakfast menu,” Halsey said.
“The original Kirk’s breakfast menu, and he has become one of my best friends since this project began, so I’m just blessed to be here.”
As construction continues and anticipation ramps us, Halsey has one simple request for the community.

Kirk’s tentative opening date will be in about 4-5 weeks.
