Catch & Cut Market Grill offers a unique dining experience in Astoria’s vibrant restaurant landscape. At Catch & Cut, there’s no need to compromise between a prime steakhouse and a premiere seafood restaurant, because this new eatery offers both. With both USDA prime steaks, including a giant Tomahawk, and the freshest fish and seafood available, Catch & Cut is the perfect spot for friends and family to gather over a meal.

Named for the combination of “first catch” and “prime cut,” Catch & Cut sits prominently on the corner of 30th Avenue and 29th Street with lush greenery and open doors that offer a view of Athens Square Park. The industrial chic interior features exposed brick, dark wood, and Edison bulbs over the inviting bar. Father and son Chris and Steve Kouvaros opened Catch & Cut in mid-August with a distinct concept….choose the freshest fish and seafood from the ice case or one of the USDA prime steaks from the refrigerated case then choose the style of cooking for the fish and temperature for the meat and leave the rest to the expert Chef.

Relax with a glass of Prosecco, wine, or an imported beer while you nibble on triangles of grilled pita bread. After perusing the display cases, we ordered some oysters to start with which were fresh and briny, as well as succulent grilled octopus, cooked to perfection and topped with pickled red onion and fresh parsley ($27). Steve suggested we try the shrimp saganaki, and we were delighted by the jumbo shrimp sauteed with diced tomato, garlic, and feta cheese, baked and served in a cast iron skillet. Fried calamari, grilled Greek style sausage, gigantes lima beans, and stuffed grape leaves are other tasty appetizers that are meant to be shared among friends and family.

Catch & Cut offers surf and turf every day of the week. My foodie friend and I decided on Dorado, a delicate Mediterranean fish with lots of flavor, simply grilled with a basting of olive oil and lemon. We chose to have the fish fileted for us or you can have it served whole from the grill. Branzino, red snapper, wild sea bass, flounder, striped bass, Faroe Island salmon, and lobster tails were some other fresh catches of the day, prepared on the grill, fried, or baked.

From the meat case, we chose to share juicy, Australian grilled lamb chops that were so tender, we picked them up by the bone and went to town. Catch & Cut is famous for their 2-3 pound Tomahawk steaks dry-aged for 21 days. Filet mignon, New York Strip, ribeye, and Porterhouse steaks are all cooked to order, on the spot. Whether you have meat or fish, the side dishes complement every meal and include a colorful beet salad, sauteed dandelion greens called “horta,” mixed vegetables, rice, fries, and their famous Greek-style lemon potatoes ($7).

Enjoy a European style lunch with cool breezes served from 12-4pm for $14.95- $19.95.

Choose among swordfish kebabs, shrimp kebabs, fish and chips, seafood pasta, or grilled shrimp. While you’re there, Catch & Cut is also a market, so you can purchase any of the fish, seafood or meats to take home, all priced by the pound.

The Kouvaros family has been part of the Astoria community for decades and Catch & Cut Market Grill is meant for community. It draws friends and families to gather for meals together in the neighborhood it calls home. Welcome Catch & Cut!
