Bill Bevins gave a presentation to the Kentland Rotary Club during the Tuesday noon luncheon on Sept. 15.
He announced that he will provide a food pantry to the Kentland area by stating, “Ever since the food pantry in town closed I felt obligated to start a new one.” The location for the new food pantry will be in Dr. Mitchell’s old dentist office at 310 E Lincoln Street. Bill found a local bank willing to work with him, and created an organization with a 501©(3) status for charitable purposes. The name he has given the community offering is Asre, a Hebrew word meaning Blessed, derived from the Beatitudes from the Book of Matthew found in the Bible.
Bevins plans to expand operations to include a commercial kitchen in the near future to provide a weekly meal to those in need. Bill mentioned that he has started a bicycle repair business in his garage that he has outgrown. He plans to move the business to the new larger facility on Lincoln Street. The repaired bicycles he provides free of charge to the children in Kentland and surrounding communities.
Bill is the Nutrition Center Manager for Newton County Community Services. He can be found on the north side of Kentland in the old Pennsylvania Depot at noon Monday through Friday.
