One of Hamilton’s standout spots for authentic Greek cuisine has closed its doors.
Ios Estiatorio & Wine Bar was located on the Hamilton Mountain at 1400 Upper James Street for seven years; a family-owned restaurant serving a terrific menu of traditional and modern Greek dishes.
Classics like souvlaki, gyros, and spanakopita were on offer alongside signature dishes like the Ios Chicken and other meat, seafood, and vegetarian options spotlighting Mediterranean flavours and recipes.
Sadly, with no warning, Ios Estiatorio has shared the news that they’ve permanently closed their Upper James restaurant effective immediately, citing a desire for the family to “move on to the next chapter.”
“From the day we opened, we had a goal and a vision to bring Hamilton a restaurant that offered quality service, a comfortable dining atmosphere and traditional Greek cuisine made with care,” wrote Ios in a post on social media.
“To our amazing team, customers, friends, family and community, thank you for being such a huge part of it all. Thank you for embracing us, supporting our family business and giving us the opportunity to be part of this incredible community.”
The restaurant’s sister bakery in Ancaster – Ios Agora – remains open with no forthcoming closure announced.
