MADISON, Wis. — An 18-year-old man charged in connection with an attempted homicide in downtown Madison in June is heading to trial after a Dane County judge bound the case over.

Online records show Rakim Parson appeared in court Wednesday. He faces two counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide and three counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety. Each of the five charges includes a dangerous-weapon modifier.

A criminal complaint alleges that Parson fired about 10 to 12 shots at a vehicle on June 13. Police said the vehicle drove away while Parson ran into an alley between the 200 block of West Gilman Street and Peace Park.

Parson was later found hiding in an alley in the 400 block of State Street, where police recovered a black Glock 23 handgun.

The victims were in the vehicle and preparing to leave when the shooting began. They told police they were near the park on Gilman Street and backing up to make a U-turn to drive up the hill when Parson allegedly began firing. The victims estimated that five or six shots entered the vehicle.

A not guilty plea was entered on Parson’s behalf, and his next court appearance has not been scheduled.
