The Top 5 Best New Restaurants in Maine

Every year, thousands of readers nominate and vote for their favorites in dining, shopping, entertainment, outdoors, and travel in Down East’s Best of Maine poll. Here we present the five finalists for Best New Restaurant to have opened within the last year or so. 

Salsa Shack  | 84 Main St., Bucksport

Previously a food truck, the Salsa Shack offers a unique twist to tacos, burgers, and family fun at its new brick-and-mortar location in Bucksport. The menu has something for everyone, from shrimp and lobster tacos to its popular Crunch Shack Supreme, their take on a crunchwrap, plus occasional specials like the Chorizo Burger. Owned and run by chef Cory LaForge, Salsa Shack has a casual, laid-back feel that makes it a convenient spot to stop in and try something a little different.

The Blue Feather Kitchen & Bar | 49 Lisbon St., Lewiston

The Blue Feather Kitchen and Bar is a cozy and aesthetically pleasing spot with a full menu of appetizers, poke bowls, burgers, and sandwiches, as well as an exceptional Sunday brunch and cocktails that are as much fun to admire as they are to sip. Since its opening, the restaurant has teamed up with local partners for events like paint-and-sip nights with mobile creation station Mama Mia Making and special offerings like themed cocktails inspired by the Public Theatre’s latest show. 

Cilantro Indian Bistro & Bar  | 186 High St., Ellsworth 

Cilantro Indian Bistro & Bar’s worth, menu comprises classic Indian favorites and creative cocktails. Chef Amol Patle creates dishes such as palak paneer and masala tikka, with an emphasis on  on fresh and wholesome ingredients.The bar specializes in funky drinks like the sweet and citrusy  Kiwi Breeze.

Medicini | 52 Main St., Newcastle 

With a Euro-inspired vibe, Medicini feels like a getaway in midcoast Maine. Its menu features fresh, thoughtfully prepared Italian dishes like mussels and calamari, along with pasta, sandwiches, salads, and desserts. Live music, Thursday open mic nights, and community events give Medicini plenty of energy.

Wharf Street Yacht Club  | 43 Wharf St., Portland

Nestled on cobblestoned Wharf Street in the heart of the Old Port, the new Wharf Street Yacht Club offers soups, salads, sandwiches, snacks, beer, and cocktails in a warmly lit dining room adorned with maritime signal flags, fishing nets, and sparkling glass fishing floats.
