Rendering of the new Lago restaurant, expected to open in Glenview in November.
Lago, an Italian steakhouse by chef Fabio Viviani, is slated to open at 1808 Waukegan Rd. in Glenview by November.
Glenview village trustees approved plans for the restaurant in the spring and granted a liquor license in August.
“Chicago has played an important role in our growth, and we’re excited to continue investing in the region,” Viviani said. “Glenview gives us an opportunity to introduce Lago to a new audience while continuing to build on what has made the Lake Zurich restaurant so successful.”
The Glenview location is a partnership between Viviani, former professional race car driver Romeo Kapudija, and Bill Stavrou, whose family has operated the Valley Lodge Tavern in Glenview since 1997. Stavrou and Kapudija also partner with Viviani on other ventures, including Giostra in South Barrington and Lago in Lake Zurich.
“Glenview has supported Valley Lodge for nearly seven decades, so I understand how important it is for a restaurant to become part of the community rather than simply operate in it,” Stavrou said in a written statement.
Construction is currently underway on the two-story, 10,119-square-foot space, which will seat about 205 guests and feature a private dining area on the second floor.
Viviani, who operates 40 restaurants across the United States, is also working to open Bocado Tapas in Barrington this fall. Restaurant officials said the Glenview opening will kick off further expansion across the North Shore next year, though additional locations have not yet been announced.
