Check your freezer! The Food and Drug Administration has expanded a recall for frozen organic blueberries and berry blends sold at Walmart and Trader Joe’s due to potential E. coli contamination.
The initial recall was issued after organic frozen blueberries from Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. of San Carlos, Chile, were linked to a multi-state E. coli outbreak. The berries were shipped to several states, including Virginia. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 17 people were infected with the outbreak strain of E. coli, and two were hospitalized. The CDC declared the outbreak over on Sept. 21.
However, on Oct. 5, the FDA expanded the recall to include additional products that could be contaminated. No new illnesses have been reported since the outbreak ended.
The expanded recall includes:

Great Value Organic Blueberries (10 oz.), Lot Codes: 6 019 01, 6 040 01 and 6 163 01 (printed on the front of the package), with Best If Used By dates of Jan. 19, 2028; Feb. 9, 2028; and June 12, 2028.
Trader Joe’s Organic Mixed Berry Blend (12 oz.), Lot Code: 6 051 01 (printed on the back of the package), with Best Before date of Feb. 20, 2028.
If you have any of these products in your freezer, the FDA recommends throwing them away or returning them to the store for a refund.
