A downtown Durham burger icon is expanding into the suburbs.
Bull City Burger & Brewery, known to some as the best burger joint in North Carolina, plans to add a second location as it expands for the first time in its 15-year history.
The new Bull City Burger Outpost #1 will open in the new Latta Park development in North Durham. That long awaited shopping center is anchored by a Publix grocery store and also includes a Chipotle. Bull City Burger Owner Seth Gross said he’s excited to finally offer his signature burgers outside of downtown.

Bull City Burger & Brewery will expand for the first time in its 15 year history, opening a new location in North Durham’s Latta Park development in 2027.
“For years, folks in North Durham have been asking us to bring our thick, juicy burgers north of the city, and we’re finally heading that way,” said Gross in a news release. “I’m excited to bring a family gathering place and we want the Outpost to make everyone comfortable, whether that’s a burger and a beer on the patio or soft serve after the kids wear themselves out in the play area.”
Bull City Burger opened the original location on Parrish Street in 2011, serving a grass-fed burger, duck fat fries and a commitment to making everything in house, except the ketchup. The burger shop also runs a small brewery in the space, supplying beer for the restaurant and some Durham bottle shops.
The new Outpost plans to open in the first quarter of 2027, serving the same style of burgers and fries. It will also expand the menu into breakfast, serving biscuit sandwiches and drinks from a coffee bar.
“We are pleased to welcome Bull City Burger Outpost to Latta Park’s retail mix,” said Austin Williams, a partner at Latta Park developer Crosland Southeast, in the news release. “We appreciate restaurateurs with proven track records in Durham, and we believe the experiences they are creating here will be a meaningful amenity for everyone who works, lives and spends time at Latta Park.”
With the Outpost, Gross hopes to attract families for burger nights, building a small turf playground and outdoor patio. The new restaurant will be 2,700 square feet with room for 65 seats in the dining room and another 12 at the bar.
Earlier this year, N&O readers named Bull City Burger among the best restaurants in the Triangle, as part of our Top 50 restaurants package.
Gross’ restaurant group formerly included Bull City Solera and Pompieri Pizza, they but closed those restaurants in recent years.
