Baton Rouge restaurant gives back to Southern students during homecoming weekend

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) – One local restaurant is stepping in to help Southern University students impacted by campus power outages.

KOK Wings and Things is giving away digital gift cards to help eligible students who have lost groceries because of the outages or are having trouble accessing meals on campus.

Owner Tre’Jan Vinson is offering the giveaway to support freshmen and sophomore students dealing with disruptions to campus life, especially those who may be struggling to figure out their next meal.

The effort comes as Southern prepares to celebrate homecoming weekend. While the occasion brings alumni, visitors and plenty of campus festivities, ongoing power issues have created additional challenges for some students, including replacing spoiled groceries.

Students interested in receiving a digital gift card can request one by sending an email from a non-school email address or by direct messaging the KOK Wings and Things social media page.

Gift cards are intended to help students purchase food while they navigate these challenges.

For local businesses, the initiative is also an opportunity to support students who are part of the Baton Rouge community.

Although homecoming is typically a time for celebration and school pride, the giveaway highlights the everyday needs some students are facing as they try to balance campus life with unexpected disruptions.

Students can contact KOK Wings and Things directly through its social media page for more information about participating in the giveaway. The restaurant has not confirmed how many students will receive gift cards.
