A Raleigh police detective’s night at a Wake Forest restaurant ended with a trail of alleged assaults, an encounter along a busy highway, six criminal charges and the loss of his job before the next morning was over.
Wake Forest police were called to the Carolina Ale House on Northpark Drive shortly after 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, after a manager reported trouble with an intoxicated customer. By the time officers arrived, Christopher Andre Reed, 32, had left the restaurant.
The Wake Forest Police Department said Reed had been bothering employees and patrons before the manager asked him to leave. Police said he attempted to strike two patrons as he exited and assaulted the manager.
Officers found Reed a short time later along Capital Boulevard/US 1. The Raleigh detective would soon be taken to the Wake County Detention Center, and the Raleigh police later announced that morning that his employment had been terminated.

Charging documents provide a more detailed account of what police say happened during Reed’s exit from the restaurant.
The News & Observer reported that warrants accuse Reed of throwing a punch at two customers and throwing his keys at another patron.
The documents say he then grabbed the restaurant manager by the back of the head and pulled him down and away from a doorway.
A witness interviewed by CBS 17 described Reed as showing off that he worked for the Raleigh Police Department and criticizing Wake Forest police during the night.
Carolina Ale House told ABC11 that the incident was captured on surveillance video and that the company was turning the footage over to police.
Along The Highway
Reed was gone when Wake Forest officers reached the restaurant.
Police said they located him walking along Capital Boulevard/US 1 with cuts and abrasions he had suffered while attempting to climb a barbed-wire fence. WRAL reported that he was also blocking traffic.
The encounter did not end when emergency medical personnel arrived.
According to the arrest warrants, Reed kicked a Wake County emergency medical technician in the groin. Police also accused him of refusing to follow an officer’s instructions.
One of the charges involved assault on a government official. The charging document cited by local news outlets describes Reed walking aggressively toward a Wake Forest officer.
CBS 17 reported that Reed also yelled for officers to shoot him during the encounter.
He was arrested on charges of assault causing physical injury to emergency personnel, resisting a public officer, intoxicated and disruptive, disorderly conduct, simple assault and assault of a government official.
Off The Force
Reed had spent roughly a decade with the Raleigh Police Department and had served as a detective since 2016.
That employment ended within hours of his arrest.
Raleigh Police Chief Rico Boyce said department employees are expected to meet high standards of conduct both on and off duty and that the department must respond when those standards are not met.
“The actions of one employee do not define the Raleigh Police Department or the dedicated men and women who serve this community every day,” Boyce said in the statement published by ABC11.
Boyce also said Raleigh police would conduct an internal affairs review of the circumstances surrounding Reed’s arrest.
The criminal case is proceeding separately. WRAL reported that Reed was being held at the Wake County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond, with his next court appearance scheduled for Oct. 7.
