Across Oklahoma, farmers and ranchers are taking to practices that keep in mind the health of not only their animals, but also the land they raise them on.
Operating under a regenerative agriculture model, these producers promote more sustainable processes. And with rising concerns over food safety and origins, these farms and ranches offer a local alternative for Oklahomans.
Regenerative farms and ranches practice sustainable agriculture through rotational grazing and other methods that lessen the negative impacts on the land. By default, this leads to healthier, happier animals, and as concerns with cost, origin and safety within the United States food system continue to rise, it makes these products worth considering for more Oklahomans, producers say.

All of the producers on this list practice a grass-finished approach to their beef, rather than grain-finishing, which means that the animals spend their entire lives consuming grass only.

Other proteins are pasture-raised with extra feeding of specific grains and supplements done to ensure they receive the nutrients they cannot get from foraging alone. These animals are not fed the high-calorie bulking feeds used in conventional farming to help them achieve market weight more quickly.
Where can you buy pasture-raised proteins like eggs, chicken, beef, pork and even lamb? Here are 12 producers across the state operating regenerative agriculture operations.
