The Colorado Restaurant Association has given a Lifetime Achievement Award to John Lehndorff. He’ll be inducted into the the Colorado Foodservice Hall of Fame, established in 1978 to honor individuals who have served as an inspiration and example through their long careers in service and significant contributions to the local restaurant industry.
Lehndorff has hosted Radio Nibbles on KGNU for more than 30 years and co-hosts Kitchen Table Talk. He has lived in Boulder since 1976 and has written about food and culture here for nearly five decades. His Nibbles column has run since 1985, and he also serves as Food Editor of Colorado Avid Golfer magazine and Exhibit Historian for the Museum of Boulder’s Boulder Eats exhibit. A former restaurant cook, caterer and cooking teacher, he has been Food and Features Editor of the Daily Camera, Senior Editor at the Aurora Sentinel, and Dining Critic for the Rocky Mountain News. His writing has appeared in Westword, Yellow Scene, the Washington Post and USA Today. Nationally recognized as a pie expert, he is the former Executive Director of the American Pie Council and longtime Chief Judge at the National Pie Championships.
In other food news this week, Fleishman’s Bagels has a new location at 4403 Broadway, Uproot Colorado is volunteers to glean edible crops left in the fields at Boulder County farms for food banks, and the Great American Beer Festival, hosted by Boulder’s Brewers Association, moves outdoors for the first time October 10-11 at Denver’s Levitt Pavilion.
And one more thing — how is artificial intelligence changing the way we eat out? Are people really using chatbots to tell them what to order for dinner? And why are restaurants using AI-generated images of their food instead of photos of the real thing?
Radio Nibbles airs every Thursday on the Morning Magazine, KGNU’s weekday morning show covering local and regional news, including headlines and commentary
