ROCKWALL, Texas (Oct. 8, 2026) — Members of local congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints came together in September to donate more than 1,000 pounds of peanut butter as part of the North Texas Food Bank’s annual Peanut Butter Drive. The donations benefited local food pantries and initiatives, including Hope in Hand Rowlett, City of Rowlett Peanut Butter Drive, Our Daily Bread Royse City, and Hunt County Shared Ministries Greenville, helping provide nutritious food to families facing hunger.

With one in six North Texans experiencing food insecurity, the annual drive addresses a significant need in communities across the region. Peanut butter is a particularly valuable pantry staple because it is protein-packed, shelf-stable, nutritious, and a favorite among children.

Local congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints contributed 600 pounds to Rowlett’s community drive, earning recognition and appreciation from Rowlett Mayor Jeff Winget.

“Your congregations came together to meet a real need, and I am grateful for the care and generosity behind that effort…Your donation will help stock those shelves, while also carrying a meaningful message to the people receiving it: their neighbors care,” Winget said.

The peanut butter collection effort represents a commitment of local members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to follow the example of Jesus Christ by caring for their neighbors and serving others.

“As Mayor, I am encouraged when people see a need and take action together. Your willingness to serve reflects the call to love our neighbors and demonstrates how faith can become a practical expression of compassion,” Winget said.

Although the September Peanut Butter Drive has concluded, the need for food assistance continues throughout the year and especially as the holidays approach. Residents are encouraged to support local food pantries through donations, volunteer service, and community involvement.
