Sproutmart – Grocery Store Simulator is a management game that entered Early Access in September this year. Kappa Bits Games is developing and releasing the game.

The Premise of Sproutmart – Grocery Store Simulator

In Sproutmart – Grocery Store Simulator, we run our own grocery store, solo or in online co-op for up to four players. For this review, I played solo. We grow crops, catch fish, and order goods to stock our shelves and expand our business.

Gameplay

As mentioned, in Sproutmart – Grocery Store Simulator, we play as a grocery store owner. The premise is simple: we have a store, customers come in throughout the day, shelves need refilling, and the register needs minding. Of course, it’s much more complicated than it sounds. We need to adjust prices so we earn some money for upgrades. We need to keep an eye out on the store, so we can buy furniture and goods to stock our shelves. Then there are the items we produce ourselves, the crops we grow and put on the shelves to sell. And the fish we’ll catch and sell.

Thankfully, crop growing is somewhat simplified- not as complicated as it is in real life. We order seeds from the store, plant them, water them, and a few in-game days later we have ready crops to sell: vegetables and fruit. That way, we also reduce costs and keep popular items in stock without relying entirely on suppliers. We can also use machines to process ingredients into new products and expand what we can sell.

For our store to function, we need to stay organized, restock regularly, and be ready at the register. As the business grows, we can hire NPC employees to help with tasks like restocking and checkout. We can expand the space by buying more land, unlock new products, and customize the shop and our living space with new furniture and decorations.

Ordering stuff from the store is like ordering from an online shop or a catalog. I found it funny how your order drops from the sky; I would order things and then race outside to watch it fall. I found fishing to be difficult, but then again, I find it difficult in any game that features it.

Some players might find the gameplay a bit basic, but I actually liked how simple everything was. The character models were a bit unique, but I still found the overall visuals nice. I liked how sunny the in-game weather was, especially since it’s already Autumn where I am.

I am not usually into farming games, but there was enough to do in Sproutmart – Grocery Store Simulator to keep me busy for a few hours without getting annoying or overly complicated. I’ll keep an eye out for future content additions.

The State of Early Access

Sproutmart – Grocery Store Simulator is in Early Access and, as such, isn’t complete and may change further. The developers expect the game to remain in Early Access for about 1 to 2 years. This can change depending on development progress and community feedback. They plan to expand the game with additional products, crops, fish, production options, furniture, decorations, and store and farm upgrades. The developers also plan to improve and expand customer and employee systems, balancing, user interface, performance, visual presentation, and overall quality of life. The developers may also introduce additional mechanics and content based on development priorities and community feedback.

The game’s price may gradually increase as the developers add significant new content and features during Early Access or at full release. Any price changes will be announced in advance. Community feedback will inform the game’s development, including in-game feedback, Steam discussions, Discord, social media, development updates, feedback posts, and polls.

Final Thoughts

Sproutmart – Grocery Store Simulator is a nice addition to the farming simulation games. It is still in the early stages compared to what the developers say they will add in the future, but there’s still plenty to see and experience in-game. I am looking forward to new content and improvements.
