The Best Restaurants in Richmond, CA

The city of Richmond has long been overlooked in the pantheon of Bay Area food cities — overshadowed, even in the East Bay, by better-publicized neighbors such as Berkeley and Oakland. And it’s true Richmond doesn’t have the fine-dining scene, or even a quarter of the amount of big name chef hype, as those cities. But what its residents have known for a long time is this: when it comes to unfussy, budget-friendly, deliciously diverse eating, there aren’t many better places in the Bay.

Of course, taco enthusiasts will know that the city’s 23rd Street commercial district can go toe to toe with any neighborhood — Fruitvale and the Mission included — in terms of sheer concentration of Mexican deliciousness. But there’s also Point Richmond, a quaint neighborhood that juts against the San Pablo Bay’s shores and boasts a fast-growing food scene; the Richmond Annex, a strip mall food lovers galore; and Marina Bay, dotted with a few of the area’s finest breweries, and a cidery that offers a Bayside view that stretches, quite gloriously, towards San Francisco’s shimmering harbor.

Richmond abounds with everything: amazing fried chicken spots, charming diners, and destination-worthy food secreted inside of convenience stores. Here are 23 of the city’s must-visit eateries.
