Several years ago I was in Tulum and had this very hot salsa. The tour guide called it “aye aye” but that has returned no results for me. I reverse engineered my way there on google maps and was able to find a picture of the salsa.
I love super spicy things, and this salsa was make your nose run, eyes water, and ears burn hot. Does anyone have any idea what could be in it?

r/SalsaSnobs **best-practices guide for figuring out how to recreate a restaurant or store bought salsa:**
* Please provide a high quality clear and close-up photo that shows the salsa in detail. Even the color of specs of dried chili floating around in the salsa can be important details.
* Ask the restaurant what’s in the salsa or gives the unique flavor. Even if a restaurant won’t give up the full recipe they’re often willing to share key ingredients. When a menu or product label is available what ingredients do those mention?
* Describe the flavor/taste of the salsa. Is it smokey? Is it tart? What do you think is in it?
* Most “help me what’s in this” type posts never get a response. The more information you’re able to provide the better your chances.
No, but looks delicious. I suspect there are some finely chopped serranos.
This is a funny question because it’s why I got into salsa and created r/SalsaSnobs . I had salsa similar to this in Tulum Mexico and realized I’ve never had great salsa before. This was 2010 and I created the sub almost 5 years ago because I wanted to continue to get better.
The salsa I had had had slightly smaller tomatoes and was a little more liquidy. But it was essentially this.
The trick is Habanero and Radish. All raw ingredients.
– 4 or 5 Habaneros deseeded and blended
– 4 Jalapeños or Serranos deseeded and blended
– 8 of 9 Diced Roma tomatoes and maybe a few blended
– 4 Radishes blended
– Lots of fresh lime juice
– salt
– 1 Red Onion or Sweet Onion quartered and Blended
– cilantro
It’s real hot because of the habaneros and is really great. I dice most tomatoes and then blend maybe 2 or 3.
Blend what you want finer. Dice what you want a little larger.
The Radishes give it kind of a garden taste and also reduce indigestion by acting as a antacid when combined with stomach acids because of its neutral Ph.
