Already started grinding rice into it before thinking about if it was real, then proceeded to throw out the rice before checking for black flecks or anything. Now when I dry grind it, it leaves a dust. Have a feeling it’s cement but need some help!!

there’s some black specks while grinding garlic but also very tiny ones so???????? I don’t even know what i’m looking for 😭
I think real.
I was in WorldMarket today and I saw my first Molcajete that I think may have been made of concrete. There was a finer texture, but not super dense like stone. It marked easily but didn’t smell like sulfur or anything.
And the feet had a different design to them than the one in the picture.
Looks real to me.

TLDR: Based on your description, the dust doesn’t mean anything, as much as a permanent mark made by a knife, and also try pouring water in it.
Looks like mine which is real
It’s looks like a black rock molcajete. Very good quality
Looks great! You can get it searing hot on top of your grill and when you are all done you can just pressure spray them absolutely clean again. I have collected molchahetes and mortar & pestle sets for about half my life.
Why would it be fake
