Thoughts on “add-on item” prices

Am I the only one that thinks some of the pricing for the “add-ons” to items is ridiculous? Especially for some of the more standard/healthy options like lettuce, onions, tomatoes. I understand how crispy strips or additional proteins or potatoes would deserve a decent charge, but I think some of the more “typical” ingredients, especially cheap veggies, should not be such a high cost. (Dare I say “free”). To make a cheesy bean and rice burrito customized the way I want it would cost more than the default burrito itself! And geez, the only free sauce / salsa now is Mexican Pizza sauce. And to add “extra” of an ingredient that comes standard on a menu item always costs more, but removing it or getting “less” when customizing doesn’t make the item cost any less.

Anybody agree with me, or do I just sound like an old, tight-pocketed man that’s bitching over a buck or two?

It is ridiculous and likely how they justify the rest of their prices. Said it before, but hardshell beef tacos should not be $3, nor should bean & cheese burritos.

It’s insane to me that shredded lettuce is an upcharge. It’s iceberg. That shit will be brown and in the garbage by 8PM. Just give it to me.

I’ve never work in fast food kitchen before, but could it have something to do with it slowing down the order flow / increasing prep time if more people have added options on all (or most) of the items they order? So they make add-ons relatively pricey to dissuade the cheap-o’s from doing so?? Just a thought…but maybe it takes almost no time for an employee to toss some onions, jalaps, tomatoes and lettuce onto my burrito. IDK.

What’s crazy is because the franchise owner sets the price, add on prices can vary wildly.

Take $0.20 off everything including onions and it’s not that bad

They’re excessive, like most of the rest of the menu.

The franchises set the prices for those. The ones at mine are all more reasonable than this. Chicken is $1. Beef is $0.80. Onions and red sauce are free. A lot of the other ones are $0.30, including black beans. The sauces (like Creamy Jalapeño) are all $0.50.

I love having the ability to add stuff. It would be nicer if they’re a bit cheaper because if you want to recreate something and you’re adding 4-5 things, it still gets pretty expensive. Generally, I’ll just add 0-2 things to an item, then.

I’m just going to go to the Qdoba and pay that $12 and then get as many toppings as I want.

Pico, this short-sighted effort by Darth Taco, deserves some recognition.

TACO BELL went off the deep-end, with this Cantina crap. The stock holders want a dead company to extract more cash from a dead horse

an inexpensive ingredient like Pico , saves their greedy asses, for now.

I worked for Pizza Hut. I watched Yum suck them dry like a vampire.
long John Silvers too, YUM won’t stop, until there is literally nothing to eat.

Mexican Pizza sauce is free for you? Here, it’s thirty-nine cents!

  11. Surprised they don’t make all the veggies concise, seems weird doing +20¢ to 60¢ just because they have a different preference in veggie, and it’s surely all more or less the same to stock them

  12. In my experience working, most customers do not give a rat’s ass about the addon prices. We’ll get a 7 item order that fills the whole screen because they want extra everything and add everything else on the line too.

You’re spot on, fucking charging for 6 diced tomatoes and 13.632 shreds of lettuce. Get the fuck out of here with that shit.

Went to a place yesterday that gave onions for free. I felt like the fucking queen of england. A lot of these prices should be like 10-20 cents max honestly

  15. orchestralgenius

Agreed. I wish I had taken a pic, but the last time I added beef to my fiesta potatoes it did not look like they added $1 worth of beef. Unless I’m super hungry I will definitely think twice before paying to add anything on again.

The price for the stuff is way too high. Then hoping it actually gets added to the food.

Hitting on the subject of you saying the standard items should be cheaper, yes. They should be cheaper. Especially with how much gets wasted in the bins underneath that catch it all. We shouldn’t be charged for the carelessness of employees. I’ve worked at TB during both rush times and slow times and it’s not hard to be clean/frugal and efficient at the same time.

  18. melatoninmogul

Mine are more expensive. It’s outrageous. I wish we could swap more things too, the guac on the nachos is nasty AF, I would much rather have pico but you can’t swap without an upcharge 😒

You can always cook at home. Corporation understand most people don’t have time to cook at home.

    #cook at home!

I think the sauces and sour cream are obscenely over priced. $0.60 for a drizzle of sauce and $0.90 for sour cream is insane. You should at least be able to swap sauces for no charge

  21. fanatic26

All taco bell prices are ridiculous. You can now eat at a sit down mexican place for less than the price of a TB meal. Everyone just keeps going and buying the overpriced food, they are reporting record profits and have no reason to set their pricing to something that makes sense.

In my opinion all the veggie add one should be free and meats should be a little cheaper. For this picture at least

  23. mfigroid

The only things on that list that you should have to pay to add on is the chicken, the beef, and the steak.

  24. Electro_Llama

I don’t get how seasoned beef and chicken are about the same price, but subbing chicken for ground beef is a $1.10 upcharge.

  25. BuddyBeagle2008

it’s sad when you pay for them and they don’t add them….it also sucks that you have pico on there and they don’t even have that at the taco bells here in town.
