Hi! Is this a real molcajete?

Hi! So for Christmas my best friend got me a molcajete! It took me a minute to find information and honestly I’m so excited to use it! I found a video on how to season it, so I started with the first round of grinding rice and rinsing but in another video I saw after it talked about how some of these are made of concrete instead of volcanic rock. It is a bit damp from when I rinsed it a bit ago and I have already ground a bit of rice in it so I’m so sorry to make this harder🥹 Is anyone able to tell if this is made of volcanic rock? Thanks so much in advance!

Looks good to me! I have seen a few of the concrete fakes for sale in Mexico and they’re a lot more gray.

Does water wash off clear when you grind a bit with your grinder thingy (forgot the correct name for it) then rinse it a few times? If so it’s probably good.

Looks too pristine for a volcanic molcajete but I may be wrong.

Looks real. Most of these are machine cut so they are very perfect looking. The older ones are going to have more imperfections. But the large pores and dark color match the volcanic rock texture.
