Pepper North’s Stargazer

I really enjoyed Pepper North's Black Cherry + Reaper sauce, so I was excited to give this one a try. Although the Stargazer is their hottest sauce, rated 9/10 (compared to 8/10 for the Black Cherry), I find that both sauces are more notable for their flavour than for their heat.

This sauce contains a nice blend of jalapeno, habanero, ghost, scotch bonnet and chipotle peppers, and it really makes for a nice chili flavour on the palate. The garlic and lime are subtle, but also present. The real jewel in the crown though is the maple, which adds just a hint of sweetness and maple flavour.

It's not a very hot sauce. I'd put it on par with some habanero sauces for heat, but notably milder than Melinda's Ghost Pepper sauce, albeit with a better flavour in my opinion, even if I do like Melinda's.

I've seen Pepper North sauces at a couple of grocery stores locally, but this particular sauce at only one. 11.99 CAD (12.99 regular) at SaveOn Foods is a little steep to have this in my regular rotation, but it was definitely worth trying once.

  1. In the same boat as you. Was wanting to try it and bought a bottle despite the $12 CAD price. Good and unique flavour, nice heat level. Don’t think I’ll need another bottle when I run out though as while it’s decent, not enough to make me want more after.
