An Upstate-based breakfast restaurant has arrived in Tigertown.
Buenos Días opened its doors in downtown Clemson on Tuesday, entering the city at the site of the former Palmetto’s Smokehouse and Oyster Bar next to TD’s of Clemson. The Mexican-inspired breakfast restaurant is locally owned with one other location in Anderson, South Carolina.
The restaurant will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering locals a taste of Mexico for breakfast and lunch.
“We are very excited about opening a new location in Clemson,” a restaurant spokesperson told The Tiger. “It’s a very important step for us, and we’re truly happy to become part of the Clemson community. We’ve put a lot of time and hard work into this location, so it’s really exciting to finally see everything coming together.”
While Buenos Días already has its Anderson location, the spokesperson believes the Clemson location offers it a better chance to be more than just a business.
“Clemson felt like a natural choice for us, because of the university and the energy of the community,” the spokesperson said. “We saw a great opportunity to bring the Buenos Días concept to a place with so many students, families, and local residents.
The staff wanted the restaurant to be located somewhere where it could become part of the community instead of just running a business.
The restaurant’s menu features numerous typical breakfast items with a Mexican twist, including a breakfast quesadilla, a ranchero omelet and a chorizo skillet, among others.
“People can expect a welcoming and enjoyable place with lots of energy, great food and a wide variety of options,” the spokesperson explained. “We offer everything from French toast and classic American breakfast favorites to Mexican-inspired dishes, including our famous breakfast enchiladas and breakfast chilaquiles. We’ll also have a wide variety of beverages, so there’s something for everyone. Our goal is to create a place where people can come, enjoy great food and drinks and have a really good experience.”
With the restaurant’s unique twist on traditional breakfast options, Buenos Días will be a first-of-its-kind restaurant downtown. City of Clemson assistant city administrator Nathan Woods said the city is eager to add a restaurant like Buenos Días to its portfolio of chain and local businesses.
“Our long-term economic development strategy focuses on creating a walkable, diverse and economically resilient downtown core,” Woods said. “Adding a new, locally owned dining option like Buenos Días by TD’s directly supports that vision by enhancing street-level activity and keeping local dollars working within our community.”
As downtown continues to grow, Woods said, the restaurant is the “first of many” new developments and investments in the city.
