So I recently discovered this stuff, and I LOVE the flavor, but I find it too salty. I haven't had any luck finding a lower sodium version. Does anyone have a recipe for a DIY version that is less salty? Either
- a wet version with Better than Bouillon Chicken and Tomato Paste OR
- a dry version with Chicken Bouillon and Tomato Powder
The ingredients on the container (pasted below) that I would definitely include would be MSG, onion, garlic, citric acid (or another acid), and the always mysterious spices. What spices?!?
INGREDIENTS: SALT, MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE, SUGAR, CORN STARCH, PALM OIL, POTASSIUM SALT, TOMATO POWDER, CHICKEN FAT, CITRIC ACID, ONION EXTRACT, GARLIC EXTRACT, MALTODEXTRIN, CARAMEL COLOR (CONTAINS SULFITES), DISODIUM INOSINATE, DISODIUM GUANYLATE, SILICON DIOXIDE (PREVENTS CAKING), TURMERIC (FOR COLOR), SPICES, ANNATTO EXTRACT (FOR COLOR), YELLOW 5, YELLOW 6, RED 40.

All of the Knorr products are salty. Just use less and add a little msg if you like.
the best approach is to use less of this powder and balance out with a custom sauce consisting of (tomato sauce, chicken stock, and some shakes of MSG).
Tomato powder+herbox salt free chicken boullion powder+garlic/onion powders. Add salt as desired to the final dish. I make something similar when I’m doing quick lunch soups.
