A Philadelphia-based hoagie shop that recently began franchising is planning a new location in Lancaster.
Ricci’s Hoagies, which traces its history in Philadelphia to 1920, will open a franchise shop at 117 N. Water St., taking a retail space in Gallery 118, a recently opened 72-unit apartment building. The Ricci’s Hoagies storefront is behind the facade of a historic garage preserved during the construction of the apartment building.
Ricci’s Hoagies specializes in traditional Italian sandwiches. Its menu features hand-sliced meats and cheeses on rolls from Liscio’s Italian Bakery in New Jersey. Offerings range from traditional Italian and roast beef to Italian tuna and chicken cutlet hoagies.
Ricci’s Hoagies is owned by Michael Pagliarella, who took over from his father, Rich “Big Rich” Pagliarella, who bought the shop in 2001. The original location is in South Philly but there are now two other locations in Philadelphia, including a franchise shop. A franchise location also recently opened in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The franchisees for the Lancaster shop are city residents Brendalise Camacho and her husband, Marcus Fontanez. Camacho, who will serve as the primary manager, is a real estate agent and a bartender at Hollywood Casino York.
Camacho said construction is slated to begin in early June, with an expected opening in early August. The roughly 1,400-square-foot shop will have seating for about a dozen customers.
