This year is my first year growing chilies. I can handle my spicy food. Yesterday I used my bird’s eye chillies and I was like why aren’t they spicy? They tasted very mild to me. Might be something wrong with them.
Never tried lemon drop before until just now, the very first yellow one on the tree, freshly picked. Because I regularly eat madame Jeanette ( up to 350K scoville) I thought this pepper would be very easy.
Welp, I was wrong lol. It was in fact spicy. I just took a little slice for both me and my husband and we were both surprised at the spice level. For me it also tasted a bit soapy.
Now I am waiting for the rest of the tree to turn yellow, does anyone has some nice recipes to use these chillies in? Or a good sambal or hot sauce recipe?
Thank you!

Lemon Drop also taste soapy to me.
I have a gene that makes some things taste soapy.
Cilantro, Lovage, Peppers with floral notes (mainly c. baccatum) so on.
Do you have soapy-cilantro gene?
Lemon drop have a mean upfront burn. Some people definitely call them soapy. I think of them as grassy with a touch of bitterness.
We only ever made jam/jelly with them but it comes out really great. I like to dice up a bright red pepper for some color contrast and forego any food coloring:

Yeah I had the same experience. Pretty decent spice tolerance, so when my lemon drops were ready this year I took a big chomp out of one of them and got absolutely lit up by it 😂
We’ve had a miserably hot summer here where I live though, so I’m wondering if that contributed a bit.
Ngl I like them as yellow pepper flakes. Way tastier than your average red pepper flakes.
I grow it for its flavour, although it’s a bit too spicy for me. For your interest, it loses much of its spiciness when cooked
Lemon drop is only pepper I’ve had that tasted soapy to me. Every year I grow a different Peruvian chile: Limón (it might actually be Mochero), and I love the flavor of it.
You probably don’t like cilantro also. Then you wouldn’t like any baccatums
I froze some and then grate them over top of meals. Really good
