Two Fort Worth restaurants, including one near Texas Christian University, were temporarily closed during July 12-25 health inspections, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.
Dutch’s Hamburgers at 3009 S. University Drive scored 22 demerits on July 13. The inspector noticed some vegetables and chicken at an unsafe temperature, several gnats flying around the back room of the kitchen and rodent droppings in the dry storage area. There were also two small dead rodents found on a glue trap under the prep table.
The city had received a complaint about rodent activity at the restaurant, a health department spokesperson said, and that was the reason for the inspection.
“The investigation confirmed the complaint, and the establishment’s health permit was temporarily suspended,” the spokesperson told the Star-Telegram in an email. “A follow-up inspection was conducted on July 14, 2026, and the establishment was approved to reopen.”
The owner of Dutch’s Hamburger’s, Kay Greenlee, said the rodents that were found were not from any recent activity. They were on an old trap that had gotten shoved under the prep table. She also believes all the construction in the area is attracting pests.
“We’ve never had anything happen like this,” she told the Star-Telegram when reached by phone Tuesday.
Greenlee said pest control has been coming out every other week to service the establishment.
Captain D’s at 8525 S. Hulen St. scored 20 on July 22. Organic matter was found on the soda and tea nozzles and there was no hot water at one of the sinks. The doors were open to let smoke out since the vent hood wasn’t working, and several flies had gotten inside. The establishment was closed for several hours but reopened the following day, according to a restaurant spokesperson.
