One killed, seven wounded in overnight shooting at Taunton house party
TAUNTON, Mass. —
One person was killed, and seven others were injured in an overnight shooting at a house party in Taunton, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
Officers responded to 911 calls reporting gunshots at 261 Weir Street around 12:35 a.m. Sunday.
When officers arrived, they found several victims with gunshot wounds and heard reports of other people who had already taken themselves to the hospital.
According to the DA’s office, investigators were ultimately able to identify eight victims. All were in their early 20s.
Zirovick Depina, 22, of Brockton, was pronounced dead early Sunday morning, the DA’s office said.
One of the other victims is in serious but stable condition, and the DA’s office said the other victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
White balloons and an apparent photo backdrop were seen outside a garage on the property, and tables were seen under a tent in the yard.
One neighbor said loud parties are common at this home, which is about a mile from the police department’s headquarters.
“A little uncomfortable because it shouldn’t happen in the area like this, especially with the police so close,” he said. “Like I said, they’re partying every night, and they shouldn’t be doing something like that, that late at night.”
This investigation is being conducted by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and Taunton Police. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact police.
