TYLER, Texas (KETK) — First Responders volunteered at the East Texas Food Bank as part of National Day of Service, a country wide effort to honor the victims and first responders involved in 9/11.

Men and women from the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, Texas DPS, the Tyler Fire Department, the Tyler Police Department and local paramedics packed meals for the food bank’s senior program. The program provides monthly nutrition to more than four thousand local seniors.

“That’s kind of what we do every day is service. So it was just a way to get back to community and also to reflect on what happened 25 years ago.”

Law enforcement filled boxes and took time to reflect on their fellow first responders that made the ultimate sacrifice 25 years ago.
