The Trump Administration is pulling the plug on the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET).
FEWS NET does one thing: it tells the world where people are about to starve. For 40 years, that warning has given the U.S., the UN, and relief organizations the head start they need to move food, line up funding, and respond before a food shortage becomes a famine.
Now the State Department has frozen FEWS NET’s funding. Tomorrow, September 30, the program begins shutting down.
Congress can stop this. If we act now.

Hello, my name is [NAME], and I’m a constituent from [CITY], [STATE].
I’m calling to ask [TITLE, NAME] to urge the State Department to fund the Famine Early Warning Systems Network, FEWS NET, now, to keep this critical program operational.
FEWS NET is a long-standing U.S. government program that gives policymakers advance warning of famines and food crises before they become catastrophes. That early warning allows humanitarian organizations and governments to position food, secure funding, and respond in time, saving lives while making taxpayer dollars go further.
FEWS NET has not received funds from the State Department and will begin the process of shutting down. If funding is not obligated soon, FEWS NET will close by the end of the year, and the specialized expertise behind the program could be lost.
I hope [TITLE, NAME] will act immediately to ensure the State Department funds FEWS NET.
Thank you for passing my message along.
If you reach voicemail, leave the same message.
Representatives Gregory Meeks, Angie Craig, Sara Jacobs, and Shontel Brown have sent a letter to the Trump Administration about this issue. If they are your Members, please thank them for their advocacy.
