San Antonio, Austin, Houston and Dallas fight like siblings. Each city believes it has the best food in Texas, and each hates seeing another one named ahead of it. We scrap for Michelin nods, and we even named the beef between the Alamo City and the Capital City the “taco wars.” One Texas-born celebrity may finally settle the debate.
Megan Thee Stallion, who has long called Houston home, was born in San Antonio as Megan Jovon Ruth Pete. Though she embraces the 210 less than her Houston hometown, her connection to both cities may make her the perfect person to weigh in on the foodie dispute. A few fans ran into the rapper in New York City, and in a TikTok posted on Tuesday, October 20, Megan gave her thoughts.
“Out of Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio … we’ve got the best food, but Austin and San Antonio might have the best Tex-Mex,” she said. By “we,” Megan probably meant Houston — and it’s true that H Town is known for its diverse cuisine, thanks to its massive population and mix of immigrant communities. It also has six restaurants with one Michelin star (second only to Austin’s seven), so on paper it looks like Texas’ foodie capital.
Megan’s spotlight on San Antonio had the comments in agreement, though. “San Antonio has the best Mexican food and Houston clears everything else,” one commenter wrote. Another speculated that “she was gonna say San Antonio but felt bad and included Austin.” And even though one of the fans meeting Megan threw Dallas into the ring for best food, the “Savage” singer didn’t seem to echo that, and most of the commenters disregarded the metroplex too. So, who really has the best food in Texas? Let’s say it’s in the beholder’s taste buds.
